user dictionary cannot be added to spell check

Dear all

I would like to add words to a user dictionary in the spell check, but I can't.

The whole section "Add words to:" with the "Dictionaries..." and "Options..." button is light grey and cannot be clicked.

Can anybody please help me?

Export an External View (or the final document) and check in MS Word or OpenOffice Oct 23, 2012

Spellchecking in DéjàVu has never really worked for me, and when it did, it was too slow, so I habitually do my spellchecking externally, either in Microsoft Word or in OpenOffice Writer (and sometimes both, on either the exported translation (if it's in a compatible format) or an External View.
