Dear colleagues,
I often have to translate technical documents where values, phrases and even sentences are segmented by tab characters. Although I know where to set segmentation rules ("split") and their exceptions, I cannot find in the manual how to express the tab character in the setting field.
Thanks in advance for any hints,

best regards,

Matthias

What about inserting tab space? Dec 4, 2012

Dear colleagues,
Okay, I understand that either there is no solution for that problem of mine or I wasn´t understood properly.
Again:
DV isn´t able (at least in my configuration) to split certain segments where the content isn´t isolated by punctuation but by space generated by the tab key in the source, but I would like to make DV to separate those phrases, content, whatever too.

Yes, I could use F5 and overwrite the source, leaving the tab space, but that´s not the elegant way.
Thank you for any hints,
best regards,

Matthias

Hi Matthias,

Try Ctrl+Shift+I to insert a tab character.

For most file types, tabs are converted into codes. AFAIR, SDLXLIFF is an exception - tab characters are not converted and represented by codes in those files.

DVX2 still does not display such characters so I use an SQL filter to select all segments with tabs.

Source or Target segments with tabs

Source LIKE "* *" OR Target_XXXX LIKE "* *"

Please add a TAB character between the asterisk symbols.

Perfect! Dec 4, 2012

Hi Selcuk,

great! The key combination works perfectly and I will try your SQL filter later when there is more time. In any way, thanks a lot!

Best regards,

Matthias
