"Remove duplicate segments" while importing a TM in DVX2

Does this option remove old duplicate segments from the TM and replaces them with new ones from the imported TM? Or does it skip duplicate segments in the new TM? And what does "duplicate segments" actually mean here - both source and target, or just source?

I'd like to be able to use this feature to update TMs with newer TM exports from clients, so that reviewed translations are used in the future. Does it work that way?
