有关“红酸果”(“蔓越橘/莓”)翻译的讨论十分精彩,我们大家都从中受益匪浅。

您的写作功夫不俗,真不愧是学戏剧的。;) 我很想知道:台湾有卖“Beavertails”的吗? 若有的话,它的繁体中文名称是什么?谢谢。

Betty, 之前看到 Beavertails 這個字時,雖然我不像 chance 那樣清楚 Beaver 是保育類動物、故沒想到有傷害動物的問題,不過因為小孩的故事書裏常有 beaver 這號角色,那寬寬扁扁的尾巴形象馬上跳進腦袋,竟覺得若有那種形款的食物,吃起來一定眼睛鼻子嘴巴再加手都會想要大呼過癮~。 後又看到 Pei Ling 引述的部落格文章裏描述 beavertails 是口感類似甜甜圈那樣的油煎麵餅,正是我偶爾愛吃的零嘴,就更覺吸引人。沒辦法,就算是垃圾食物,其美味還是不能否認的嘛!

可惜的是,在台灣好像還真沒看到過這款食物。就我想來,若引進台灣市場來賣,直接叫做「海狸尾巴」應該就會很吸引消費者了,這名字可能特別會引得小孩子共鳴也不一定。

類似的北美甜食有個「吉拿」 Churros 倒是可在台灣吃到。最初嚐到這口味當然也是在迪士尼樂園,那時我們稱之為美國油條,油滋滋又熱又甜又香還加上肉桂粉的味道,簡直叫人魂牽夢縈了幾年。哈哈。近年來是在台灣的 Costco 店內吃到這款「垃圾美味」。

曾经译过一份菜单,上面就有“Beavertails”。当时因为很忙,便不加思索地对客户说:“Beavertails就是Beavertails,保留原文即可”。现在读了您的介绍,顿觉自己当时的做法不够专业。

几位女将(尤其是您和chance)都比较倾向于将“Beavertails”译为“海狸尾(巴)”,这样(直)译,既忠实原文,又形象生动,我赞成。

Here are a few links that may aspire you even more for the proper translation of beavertails.

I've been to some county fairs, and have seen and tasted fried dough before. They are indeed delicious, not too far from doughnuts, but more chewy and not as sweet.

北京有油饼、油条, 其实也是一种 fried dough. But those are salty, and are entirely different animals.

  一品锅“一品锅”是徽州山区冬季常吃的一种火锅。

  相传,此菜由明代石台县“四部尚书”毕锵的一品诰命夫人余氏创制。一次,皇上突然驾临尚书府作客,席上除了山珍海味外,余夫人特意烧了一样徽州家常菜:火锅。不料皇上吃得津津有味,赞美不绝。后来,皇上得知美味的火锅竟是余夫人亲手所烧,便说原来还是“一品锅”!菜名就此一锤定音。

  “一品锅”的烹调比较讲究,在火锅里,锅底铺上干笋子,第二层铺上块肉,第三层是白豆腐或油炸豆腐,第四层是肉圆,第五层盖上粉丝,缀上菠菜或金针菜,加上调料和适量的水,然后用文火煨熟即成。此菜乡土风味浓,味厚而鲜,诱人食欲。
