You remind me to go out more often for those yamis! Almost all of those popular dishes can be found in Taiwan, with slight variations though, not so spicy.

Chwee Kway is also popular in Taiwan. When I was kid, peddlers would come into our village with such yami. I get mouthful water now.

Thanks. I'm glad it wasn't just my imagination. I felt a little guilty after posting that bit, and was wondering if I was too judgmental based on my mere gut feeling without doing any real research.

To each his own though. Like you said, some people must like it.

不是建军这贴我还真没注意到wherestip的那贴,借用彤彤的话,还是我们法广中文台的广播员字正腔圆,呵呵!

法广最近也来了一朵喇叭花,不光是发音问题,主要感觉她文化修养也差一点,不过最近略有进步。

If I am not wrong, "belacan" is the original term. Check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrimp_paste. I can imagine my mum pronouncing it as "belacan" instead of "belachan".
