http://surinaamsekeuken.web-log.nl/surinaamsekeuken/2004/07/pratha_roti_zon.html

I agree with you, Jianjun. Now that you mention it, I've been wondering about this too.

BTW, I'm basing my comments on my very limited exposure to some news clips I've seen here and there on the web. So I could be entirely wrong. But I definitely have noticed some differences in the way news people talk compared to the '60s and '70s.

Not that there's anything wrong with it. And I also mean no offense to proponents of the modern sound. It's just that I personally much prefer the straight forward tone they used to deploy in news delivery, IMO

Homesick now!! Oct 8, 2006

I just read through the last two pages of this topic, and now I'm homesick!!! The roti canai (we call it "roti prata" in Singapore) and teh tarik Peiling introduced are what I have back home too!!! I love roti prata. I can have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In recent years, special twists were given to the prata. Besides the plain and egg pratas, you can even get ice-cream pratas. Don't ask me how they make them!

Peiling mentioned laksa in one of her replies. Here it is:

Oooo, I love it spicy with lots of dried beancurds.

My favourite Singaporean food is chwee kway:
http://www.makantime.com/images/hawker/chweekway.jpg
The magic is in the radish! There is no way I can get chwee kway here in Germany, but at least my mum mails me a packet of radish once every few months. She doesn't allow me to eat too much of that stuff though because it is too salty. Oh no, no, no... my chwee kway craving is coming up...

You have to check this out: http://www.makantime.com/indexadvice.html (click "Popular Dishes")

It's 2.15am now. I was actually about to go to bed, but I think I will make myself a roti prata with sugar (can't find curry at this time!!) instead. I count myself lucky--the Asian shop here sells frozen roti prata!!
