女翻译能顶半边天?

恐怕不行。

在工作上,专业能力是一个方面,跑业务的能力却更为重要。我接触过的陪客户来欧洲考察、谈判的翻译全是男的,他们不仅要在谈判的时候作翻译,还要替客户订酒店,租车,安排行程,处理杂事。有次客户临时决定要去布拉格,已经是晚上9点多了,那位翻译兼司机二话没说就带他们去了。女的在这方面要差很多,光是开车认路这一项,恐怕90%以上的女同志都不合格。

我说的是口译。

每次洽谈口译任务,我首先考虑的是交通方不方便,要不要夜间开车,去的地方安不安全。如果这几点不合适的话坚决推掉,口译的内容和价格反而很次要。

下星期要去捷克,又听说最近捷克的高速公路上有人打劫,发愁中。

大学毕业的时候很多单位都不愿意要女生,甚至连高校这样最适合妇女同志的单位也不例外。聊天的时候某大学外语系的系领导告诉我,系里女同志太多,搬个家都成问题,几名女同志连张桌子都弄不走……

岂不知国内现在要是有出国的项目找翻译非要找年轻漂亮的姑娘?

还有一个更搞笑的,温州那边找俄语翻译,找了个学生,便宜呀,结果带着字典都没用。专业方面的东西一点不会。

不是说会哪种语言,这个人就能做翻译的。

大家在一起吹吹牛聊聊天,那没问题。

我刚才在另外一个帖子下说了,中国的翻译(包括口译)市场一点不成熟,绝大部分的译者不合格,绝大部分的客户也不找专业翻译,宁可一搭两用。人家还没意识到专业中有一个专字,要专业水平服务,需要专门做这个事情的人。
这个需要时间,急也没用。

客户找口译除了水平外,对翻译本身的要求也是有的。其中,我接触到的客户中,来自日本的客户多数喜欢漂亮的女译员。说到安全问题,女译员有些也挺麻烦的。

有一次,一位朋友找到我说他的一个意大利朋友需要半天的口译。我找到IVECO的意大利语女翻译。其他最什么,因为她当时上班的地方离客户的地点有2小时车程, 所以她提出一个安全方面的要求,必须要我本人全程“配译”。不然,就让客户带上那位意大利客人去她家楼下的茶楼。。我听了当时有些发晕,因为正忙手上的急事儿呢!最后,好说歹说。我为他们找了一间朋友开的茶楼,才算了结这事。后来,再不敢轻易答应找女翻译的事儿。。呵~

要我绝不肯把客户带到自家楼下。万一那客户不是好人,岂不很容易就能找到她家?

呵~其实,一天的翻译口译任务一般没有什么顾忌的,因为口译的场合一般都比较公开化。有时去遇到客户需要口译人员一同去一个地方,需要几天的时间。这样,女译员会有些考虑也是可以理解的。

So the interpreter is like a language expert + PM + Nanny + chauffeur + tour guide all in one? Wow, what a sweet deal for the client. I hope they are paying him enough. So far the only interpreter I know here in Canada are court interpreters; none of the tasks mentioned above are involved. As a matter of fact, the provincial payment rates they have for interpreters is pathetically low that most interpreters would probably work in the capacity mentioned above so to make a living. So on that basis, the majority of court interpreters ARE women, given the fact that they can freelance and work on call, which I guess works out as some of these women could be homemakers as well.

这类英文看着溜,有些老外(native)的英文不咋好,有些native很好。

就是路上不太放心。

如果到火车站是夜里十一二点,连打的都发憷。

按照巴伐利亚州的法律,法庭翻译的价格是每小时55欧,还可以。但是法庭为了管理方便,单子都给译社,翻译拿到手的就少多了,俄语翻译有的一小时才给10个欧。

按照巴伐利亚州的法律,法庭翻译的价格是每小时55欧,还可以。但是法庭为了管理方便,单子都给译社,翻译拿到手的就少多了,俄语翻译有的一小时才给10个欧。


从译社来的任务肯定少得多,但象俄语翻译这样一小时10欧是不是和国情有关?还是男女有别?
