近日在看一本翻译书。作者认为，在下面的对话翻译中 ，有一处是错误的。说实话，不看这本书，我真挑不出翻译上有什么大的问题。不知各位有何看法。
Do you think all the programs are good？
你认为所有的节目都很好吗？
Some of the progams are interesting. But others could be better.
其中一些节目很有趣。其他一些节目可以演得更好一些。
“答案”会在近日揭晓^_^

中文也整成一个句子语意上也顺些 -> ，而其他...
至于could be better，前面有一个but，恐怕要公说公有理，婆说婆有理了。

英文原话这样讲, 一般并不限于演员的演技.
"but others could be better" could refer to any number of aspects of the programing, especially the content of some of the programs.
所以加 "演得" 一词意思走样了.

No, no. That's not what the English means. 
The implied long response to the question would be something like this: while some of the programs were interesting, some of the other programs were not(that/as interesting), and could have been better than the way they actually turned out to be.
It's a nice way of saying these other programs were subpar -- 中文俗话就是"差劲儿"
其实中文的意思就是 "有的节目挺令人感兴趣的, 但其它的不怎么样" -- Yueyin 说的一点不差.

该书的作者认为，“其他一些节目可以演得更好一些”不对，应改成“其他一些节目演得不够好”。
但我觉得原译也不错啊，事实上表达更加委婉含蓄，但并不影响我们受众的理解：“可以演得更好一些”，说白了，实为隐指“演得不够好”。为什么就认为这种译法是错误的呢。
至今仍未想透。

better的词义还是“更好”，但由于比较的参照系不同，翻译中就不能翻译成“更好”。
还有形容词比较级，根据比较的参照系，有时候要翻译成“更...的”，有时候要翻译成“较...的”。

“其他一些节目可以演得更好一些”也可以理解为：其他一些节目也很有趣，也很好，但还可以百尺竿头，更进一步。
与原文的意思相反。

不只是“换一种说法而已”，也不一定是“演得不够好”的问题。这是一种委婉的否定。正如 Steve 所说：

这个“差劲儿”、“不怎么样”，不一定是指演得不好。例如，也可能演员演得很到位，但剧情 "not interesting"，使人昏昏欲睡。
这个问题之所以使人感到困惑，那是因为连作者自己也没搞清问题的症结，故在原文里用了 "could be better”。正确的英语说法应该是 "could have been better” 或 "should have been better”。这也是一种虚拟语气。
