TRADOS alters special (diacritic) characters

I have Trados 5.5 and a text to translate in Word.

The text looks OK, but when I open a segment with diacritic signs in Word, Trados changes them in other special characters (ü -> Ÿ, etc.).

What can I do to avoid this? Save as in another format?

This might be a font issue - is the font used in the document installed on your system?
