Anyone having experience in this? In a potential project, several drawings in AutoCad need to be translated. Is there any way of extracting these into an editable format. I have Deja Vu, but I do not have AutoCad.
thank you | | |

Now I know that the file format is .dxf. Also, apparently there is a downloadable add-on called TRANS that extracts drawing texts into text files, then, after translation, re-inserts these text segments into their original locations. Anyone having AutoCad around here?
I have a bad experience with AutoCad and would like some advice too | Sep 16, 2002 |
I have the software and thought I wouldn\'t need to now design to use it to translate. It\'s very, very difficult. And in the drawings it was said that it couldn\'t be worked on another format. Although several friends tryed to help me, I couldn\'t do it, so if anyone can give advice on \"translating with AutoCad\" it would be very useful. But Csaba Ban, I think you need the software.

I have Visio 2002, and in theory you can open AutoCAD files, and save as AutoCAD files, but I haven\'t tried it in practice yet.
knowledge of the software is a must | Sep 16, 2002 |
Sorry, but in my opinion knowledge of the software (which may include CAD knowledge) is a MUST, BEFORE accepting such a project. AutoCAD is a difficult program to get to know and use proficiently, so there really is no point in accepting such a project if you don\'t know what you\'re doing. At worst, you could completely ruin the clients files.
Good luck anyway.
