Hi,

Does anybody know of/has anyone written a PHP script or web app for searching TMX files online on a private web server i.e. similar to a concordance search and displaying nicely-formatted results (easily customisable to show custom TM attributes)?

Something that works like http://www.sam-xlation.de/index.php/de/sam-tm-viewer.html or http://wiki.frenchmozilla.org/index.php/Scripts_de_glossaire#Feedback.2C_questions.3F

I was hoping to save some time if someone already has something like this and would be willing to share their work. It is not to be used commercially.

Please note that I am only looking for a web-based solution, I need to publish TMX files online for easy searching by certain users - I already know that good offline alternatives exist e.g. TMLookup.

Thanks in advance,
Daniel

Sketch Engine + TMLookup Feb 21, 2014

Hi Daniel,

It's not free, but I recommend you have a look at the Sketch Engine: http://www.sketchengine.co.uk

You can create massive corpora that are searchable within seconds!

They recently added TMX import functionality.

PS: not online, but blisteringly fast (even with TMX collections of up to 40 million TUs!) and open source: TMLoo

Maybe the hunglish software? Feb 21, 2014

As a general rule I much prefer offline tools, but I understand there may be situations where you want to use a server-client setup (database too large to deliver to everyone, confidentiality issues or very frequent updates).

The developers of hunalign compiled a large English-Hungarian corpus (this is what hunalign was developed for) and they make the corpus available through a web query interface. I would expect that they are probably willing to share their code. Contact them if t

TmLookup with custom translation memory attributes? Feb 24, 2014

Hi,

Thanks Michael and Farkas for your ideas. Farkas, are you planning for custom TM fields to be shown in TM Lookup in the future?

Best,
Daniel

Custom fields Feb 24, 2014

Well, processing TMX files is non-trivial... At present TMLookup doesn't properly parse TMX files, so weird TMX files may get screwed up. Full support for importing multiple texts fields is unlikely, but there is basic support for one text field per TU. Only <prop type="Txt::XXX"> fields are recognized. I don't remember how much I tested this but I think it should work. The text field is read as the last column of the file, i.e. the third column if the TMX is bilingual.

I'll just edit the TMX slightly... Feb 24, 2014

...one field is enough for me. I know it's really not easy parsing TMX, so thanks for your efforts in making a simple (to use), functional tool.
