is it worth investing in the software? if yes, what package would you recommend for professional translation? I am looking for medical and legal glossaries

A number of large multinational corporations use Systran. This is a machine translation program which to be effective must rely upon controlled language as source text. This means that only certain sentence structures are allowed, and a word can generally have only one meaning. Unless you expect to get a contract from a large company that uses simplified language and can provide you with extensive glossaries, you're probably better off with a translation memory program.
