Tea Sep 2, 2008

Do you indeed believe it was because translators were not interested? Don't you think it was because they have enough common sense and ethics to reject such a proposal?
I'm afraid I need some tea...

Just cutting mercilessly in your post, my excuses for that
But to get to the point:

*sets up a table full of tea and coffee (for the persons who do like it LOL) and some comfortable lawn chairs*

Nicolette, now I sincerely believe this posting is worth the time we are spending here. God (or destiny, or whoever/whatever, depending on your beliefs or preferences) has arranged all this for a good, so far concealed purpose:

Making you feel like inviting us all to a nice tea!! Please count on me! Do you accept spouses and small children? I promise I will bring some Spanish goodies to share around too.

Apparently, Felipe only answers what he wants and who is interested in.

Everyone is welcome, even spouses and small children.
However, I think the lawnchairs will have to be moved inside I'm afraid; it looks like it's going to rain really hard LOL

TMX 2.0 Draft Sep 2, 2008

Has anyone any idea about this new standard? Would it be useful for a global TM?

No, use inhouse format instead Sep 2, 2008

The problem is that with a global TM you're likely to want to store information about the TM and TUs that might not generally occur in a normal TM, and which may not have an implementation in TMX. Besides, TMX is a very bulky format.

For a global TM, I would suggest that the data is stored in some inhouse format (be it flat files or a relational database), and when translators download the TM, they specify what format they want it in. Then the system converts the result into that format, on the fly, and translators download it in a format they like best.

Proved my point. Felipe only answers when he doesn't have to think long about the answer, even avoiding a direct question to him.

Who wants some tea? LOL

Public TM with public content and private TMs Sep 3, 2008

The question is. Will there be sufficient critical mass of top translators/revisors as to feed and maintain in top quality this public TM?
What about specialised TMs too with restricted access?
What about several levels of quality TMs?

I am very sorry about the people who just think this thread is about asking me and getting answers from me. The thread is about The global TM I want... If these people don´t want a global TM, just, leave the thread, but don´t put away the rest of translators who are interested in this topic. Moderators, do you think is that correct?
I know that it is a very sensitive topic, but I don´t like the way these people are behaving.

By the way, Google launched its own server. My prophesy about Microsoft disappearing has started. Let´s see what happen in 10 years with:
-Siemens
-Sony
-Mercedes

In Spain, in a little province like Segovia, the applications for permission to install photovoltaic fields ("huertos solares") would be enough to cover the energy demand. But most applications will be rejected. In other provinces there is a similar problem. The traditional energy suppliers have started to look for new business (servi-hogar from gas natural http://portal.gasnatural.com/servlet/ContentServer?gnpage=1-1-1¢ralassetname=1-1-3-3-0-0-0 because they are realising, as the arab countries did much time ago, that with a decentrilised renewable-energies-based provision system the traditional way of understanding energy provision is over. With the windt energy of my town and solar cells of my roof and the biogas of the countryyard I don´t need at all of RWE, E-ON, Unión Fenosa. They are out!!!!!!!!! And they are fighting like lions...

One more question. Who receives currently the money from the oil exports of Irak? Who receives the oil? Has anybody a link to the list of countries who received/buy oil from Irak today? Is there a certain amount as "compensation" for the expenses incurred by the US for the "liberation" of the iraqui people? Have you ever seen a single news in the TV about this question? In what TV-channel?

Felipe, honestly my friend you should learn more about some things. You see evil intentions everywhere. The fact that not all photovoltaic plants are approved is simply because by permitting a plant you are forcing energy companies to purchase the produced energy at a price much higher than it would cost to produce the energy with other means and methods.

You cannot force a private company to spend all its money in purchasing energy at a ridiculously high price, thus destroying the chances of profit, thus making the existence of the company rather useless and making it impossible to provide a good service all in all.

Is it possible that you simply consider company profits evil and your distrust (I did not want to say hate) of big corporations derives from that?

No requirement to answer every single question Sep 3, 2008

Nicolette Scholte wrote:

No doubt some people regard it as rude if a respondent in a thread does not reply to all questions directed to him. Other people might regard it as rude if a respondent pollutes a thread by posting trivialities unrelated to the discussion and using the thread as a vehicle for banter between those no longer interested in the original discussion.

I think there are different styles of responding in a thread. I myself answer only the questions that (a) I have time for, (b) I have an answer for, (c) I think is a valid question, etc. In my opinion, doing so keeps the thread tight and to the point.

Felipe may not have answered all your questions, but he is raising some interesting points that are still largely related to the original discussion. Your responses show that you have no interest in the original discussion yourself -- all you're concerned about is proving some tenable point of etiquette. No doubt you regard your posts about having tea as humorous, but is there anything you can offer us in terms of the original discussion or the other posts related to it?
