Esperanto - how 'alive' is it? How long to learn? Any online courses? Thread poster: Stefanie Sendelbach

Hi Venabili, Thanks a lot for your links. The Uni Leipzig dictionary is great! It has entries in Esperanto only as well as from other languages to Esperanto and the other way round. When did you start with Esperanto? Did you have a teacher or did you study with online courses? It seems to me that many people actually learn Esperanto online. I don't think online learning is that widespread with other languages. Stefanie

It is also useful as if you type an Esperanto word it makes an analyze so even if you mistype, it wil show the word. I started a few months ago. I do not have a tutor in my country.. I learned mainly in "Lernu!" The site is great, the language helpers are great and I really like all there. The other two courses that I recommens are the Free Esperanto course and the multilanguage one - the last is supported by UEA. However I have some bad experience with it as my tutor disappeared - but if Englishj is your native, you will not have this trouble About online learning - depends. I had learned the basics of a few languages online and on a later moment had seen a teacher for clarifications and so on. But compared with Esperanto - yes - Esperanto is really easy to be learned online. Gxis! Venabili
kanajlo wrote: Sendari and Venabili have found some excellent sites! Thank you both! I will list some more sites later. Lernu Esperanton! Saluton, Basically I may post all the sites I have bookmarked if someone wants them. Together with a small review what the site is about. But this will be a really very very long post so I am not sure it will be suitable And not only for Esperanto in fact - Artificial Auxiliary languages are one of my hobies Venabili
The 16 rules of Grammar are really a good resource but sometimes you need a better resource: http://www.bertilow.com/pmeg/index.html Unfortunally if you do not speak Esperanto, you almost can't use it but... it is a great reference.

Venabili wrote: The other two courses that I recommens are the Free Esperanto course and the multilanguage one - the last is supported by UEA. Hi Venabili, Which courses do you mean? Are they in one of the websites that have already been mentioned? If not, do you have the links for us? Thanks for all your contributions and tips. I find it really helpful to have somebody here, like you, who has studied the language not too long ago and who is willing to share his experience. Dankon, Venabili! Stefanie

Hi again, Venabili, Definitely, please post your links here. The longer the list, the better, I´d say. What you post here can be accessed later by everybody who is interested in Esperanto. For the other languages, please post the links as well. But I suggest you start a new forum thread, which is dedicated to other artificial languages. Maybe we should reserve this thread for Esperanto only. Gxis, Stefanie Venabili wrote: Basically I may post all the sites I have bookmarked if someone wants them. I think I will reorder them, rewrite some of teh explanations and post all of the Esperanto ones here at the beginning of next week... And I may start a new thread for the others

Stefanie Yes - I had already posted the links. I was writing about the other two I recommend that are not part of Lernu I mean these two: http://www.cursodeesperanto.com.br/bazo/index.html?en - especially if you are not English native - they have tutors in a few more languages. And even if you do not want a tutor - the course is a good one - with a lot of listening exercises http://pacujo.net/esperanto/course/ - my tutor here is great The course starts easy and is going harder and harder Basically all the courses I had listed are good ones and I just made all of them. I just give some recommendations based on my experience and what I had found to be most useful. After Lernu You are welcome.. I prefer to help if I can in such situations By the way - It is 'her' experience in this case Annie

I am a lifetime member. http://www.esperanto-usa.org/[/quote] Then you are lucky The Bulgarian organizations do not even answer mails recently (well.. they did answer a few mails with 3 weeks delay). I just use American(or other English Speaking Country's) sites and helpers when I have some Esperanto issue. That makes real fun sometimes. Especially when English does not have a given construction (For example his can be translated in Esperanto with lin or sin depends on the context and Bulgarian have exactly the same constuction with exactly the same usage. And I needed maybe a few hours just to realise it - whoever tried to explain was exactly explaining and not saying - it is like in Bulgarian.) So having someone that speaks fluently your language and Esperanto is of great help. Ny the way ELNA site is a useful site for any beginner with fluent English

You are really great! I am browsing through all the links, and the links on these sites, and the links on those sites.... give me a week. I'll be back with a full report then. Sorry for the 'his', Annie. I don't know why I thought you were male.

Don't you ever sleep? Have fun with the links and Esperanto I hope you wil really like it. sundari wrote: Sorry for the 'his', Annie. I don't know why I thought you were male. It's ok. By the way - Venabili is a character from a novel so if you had not read it, it is highly unlikely to determine the gender. So after the first his, I usually specify this;)
