Not many translators can translate German or French into Dutch. My generation was the last to study those languages as a matter of course, as part of our curriculum. Currently, supply and demand are such that Dutch students of German or French have better career opportunities than becoming commercial translators. German and French into Dutch are niche markets, with their own rules.
You'll find English to Dutch translators galore, though, and it will take many clients some time to find out that 'speaking English fluently' doesn't equal good translations.
This is the best website I know to select a professional full-time free-lance translator for German to Dutch, French to Dutch or English to Dutch translations. But this site is targeted at a global audience, whilst my clients are mostly European. That’s why I like to emphasise the following:
• My clients will never be my references. In Europe discretion simply means secrecy. Confidentiality wasn't new to me when I signed my first non-disclosure agreement.
• I will never share my Translation Memories with third parties. This includes anonymized sharing on platforms like TM-Town.
• Except for Blue Board entries, I will never participate in any ProZ programme that will link my direct or indirect clients to me. On this site, I’ll never have a project history, a willingness to work again rate and the like.
• I won’t divulge my clients, but anyone can send me a test translation of about 250 words. If I’m interested I’ll translate the text for free within a day.
