Translation Services in Audio and Video

Transcription, subtitling, adaptation for dubbing and related services are areas I'm very passionate about.

It sometimes allows you to deal with language more freely than formal legal jargon and corporate terminology, for example. Therefore, despite the rigid specifications we may have to follow, I find it liberating.

In this line of work, you have to consider many aspects, such as the target audience and proper register to fit very specific situations in communication. You have to understand the message at deeper levels. That includes transposing social and cultural values.

It's as challenging as it is fascinating. A single video may require lots of research (there's always a wild card, really) and solid cultural knowledge.

I started flirting with it many years ago, doing volunteer work for TED Talks, which can be found on YouTube. Not my best work, I'm afraid, but it all started there. Later, I translated a Brazilian movie into English called Vampiro 40°. Directed by Marcelo Santiago and produced by LC Barreto, the movie was selected to Fantasporto (Portugal), one of the most prestigious fantasy/horror movie festivals in the world.

I kept on providing audio and video translations to corporate entities, which I still do today. However, they are mostly meetings, congresses, seminars, training sessions or customer service calls.

I decided it was high time I took subtitling and dubbing more seriously, so I decided to take translation courses to focus on that. And I did, and it was wonderful. Now, I offer services that cater to both vendors in the entertainment industry to corporate end clients with top quality delivery.
