Our virtual PowWow was great! We had 70 people signed up, 30 confirmed and only 20 attended but ended in 16! It was the first PowWow in Italy for 2020 and also the first one held virtually!
We could have been even more attendees but we had some issues due to the discrepancy between my ProZ account vs ProZ time settings and accessing the virtual room on ProZ.
It was fantastic getting together virtually and, at the same time, a little bit strange, but all of us were glad to share our experience. I met some colleagues that I already knew from live PowWows and new colleagues, experts and beginners.
We got to know each other, introducing ourselves, talking, sharing professional and personal experience views, sharing of how to thrive as a translator within the period of Covid-19 lockdown and in the “new normal” to come.
For this meeting I’ve prepared a short presentation on topics to help us to keep alive the conversation, and it was very helpful! I noticed that sharing our personal experiences online makes much good to translators who participate.
If I have to make a summary, these would be the main positive points:
- the PowWow was held in a very pleasant way thanks to the participants attending
- we all had a very interesting interaction in sharing our points of view and experiences
- I made my presentation to to stimulate discussion and sharing
- the topics and content I suggested as starting point of our sharing were appreciated
- after the event, I’ve created and shared 2 surveys, one for who attended and one for who did not attended the PowWow, to understand what is most interesting and shareable topics
By the way, in the past years I’ve organized PowWows in person and they have always been great, but this was my first experience in virtual PowWow on ProZ!
I will propose another virtual PowWow date soon.
